2017 – We have a new elected Libertarian in Nebraska!

Ben Backus ran unopposed for Gering City Council – Ward III and therefor is now an elected Libertarian!

As you might noticed the web site doesn’t get a lot of updating as a lot of what goes on within the WNLP area ends up on Facebook, so to that end I changed the Events Calendar to a widget to pull data from the Facebook Events. The By-laws are generally kept up to date when new revisions are voted on. Right now since Scotts Bluff County adopted the WNLP-base By-laws we are keeping the WNLP By-laws in step with them; as of right now they are the only county within the WNLP area with a party.

More from LPNE in 2015

It’s a new year and time to start fresh with a new Nebraska Unicameral. We have plans to work with Nebraska Friends of Midwives since LB428 failed to make it out of the HHS Committee in 2014.

Expect more as the year moves on and keep an eye out for when we start our monthly meetings again. If you have any input please contact Ben Backus or myself.

Ben Backus for Secretary of State response to the “Foley” issue

“John Gales decision today highlights exactly why Nebraska is ready for a third party candidate. The Secretary of State’s office is supposed to be a non-partisan voice in the election process. If the situation was reversed, and the candidate was a Democrat we all know Mr. Gales decision would be different. He stated he is trying to prevent confusion in the election process. There is no confusion , there is election law. You are a lawyer Mr. Gale, follow the law. Mr. Gale was appointed to his position, hand selected by republican leadership. It’s time for the citizens of Nebraska to break up the “good ole boy” system running our state and elect real people to office, and not the rotating selection of stuffed shirts. Mr. Gale may point out that I might not be qualified for the office since I am not a lawyer, but I do know how to read and I do know how to follow the law , one of those two points Mr. Gale is failing on.” – Ben Backus for Nebraska Secretary of State 2014

Libertarian Party of Nebraska – Shirt Fundraiser!

So the Libertarian Party of Nebraska has launched a Shirt Fundraiser and we need to sell at least 20 shirt! Below is a picture of the front of the shirt and you can click anywhere in this post to be taken to the Shirt Fundraiser page. Below is from the page:

“This revolution will not be televised! Help the Libertarian Party of Nebraska support the 2014 Libertarian candidates!”

The Founding Fathers would wear this shirt!

“2014 is a critical year for Libertarians in Nebraska. We MUST have a successful election this year in order to maintain ballot access. In fact, Nebraska Libertarians must do this every 4 years! If we fail to reach our goals, the Libertarian Party of Nebraska will need to petition to regain ballot access in our state. Petitioning is a time consuming and costly effort!

The easiest way for us to maintain ballot access is to ensure that we have at least 5% of the votes in the statewide election in 2014. We have the candidates and a plan in place to make this happen! The Libertarian Party of Nebraska depends entirely on the support from liberty minded individuals like you. Your generous contribution will help carry our message and our values into every community and help elect Libertarian candidates to office.”

Nebraska LB 1001 has passed the judiciary committee in a 7-0 vote, so not it’s time to let your state Senator know how you feel about the bill! LB 1001 which is now headed to the floor for debate in the Nebraska Unicameral is in short- “Allow production and marketing of industrial hemp, exempt industrial hemp from the Uniform Controlled Substances Act, and provide powers and duties for the Department of Agriculture”
